Scantec Refrigeration Technologies Completes a 1.63MW Ammonia Retrofit Project

By

Australian industrial refrigeration system provider Scantec Refrigeration Technologies has completed a 1.63MW (464TR) low-charge ammonia (R717) retrofit project, replacing an existing R22 and ammonia system.

Serving six direct expansion (DX) ammonia rooms and 14 glycol-cooled process rooms, the new system has a low-stage capacity of 630kW (179TR), including a dedicated 250kW (71.1TR) carton freezer load, and a high-stage capacity of 1MW (284TR). The new project reduced the ammonia charge from 3,400kg (7,496lbs) to 1,900 kg (4,189lbs), while completely removing 900kg (1,984lbs) of R22.

In addition, the retrofit involved the removal of old compressors, condensers, pressure vessels, evaporators and pipework.
