Chillventa 2026: DTI, Fraunhofer and Danfoss Discuss Opportunities to Decarbonize with Heat Pumps

By Editorial Team

Danfoss, the Danish Technological Institute (DTI) and the Fraunhofer Institute discussed opportunities to decarbonize industry with heat pumps during presentations at the 2026 Chillventa Congress. Ivan Rangelov, Director of Industrial Heat Pump Solutions at Danfoss, said his company’s research has found that the current decarbonization opportunity in Europe alone for heat pumps is 100GW, with food and beverage making up 67% of that total.

Benjamin Zühlsdorf, Innovation Director at DTI, and Dr. Ursula Wittstadt Senior Engineer, Heating and Cooling Technologies at Fraunhofer, noted in their presentation that for every high-temperature heat pump using HFOs, there is an alternative available using natural refrigerants.
