The 17 companies that received the ATMO Approved Label in 2025 placed on the market products that will avoid the release of 22.9 million metric tons of CO2e (GWP 20) and 1,000 metric tons of TFA (trifluoroacetic acid) during their lifetime, according to estimations by ATMOsphere, the publisher of NaturalRefrigerants.com.

The data on avoided emissions comes from products placed on the market in 2024, and the calculation was part of the process for approving and reapproving companies for the 2025 edition of the label. That process is underpinned by a model that considers numerous factors, among others: leakage, efficiency and annual energy consumption. The model assumes that every natural refrigerant-based product sold prevents the sale of an alternative using f-gases, thus avoiding that product’s lifetime refrigerant-related CO2 and TFA emissions.

The focus on avoiding PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which includes TFA, a byproduct of the atmospheric degradation of some HFO and HFC refrigerants, was a new addition to the label criteria for 2025. Researchers have deemed TFA a “planetary boundary threat” due to its potential risks to human and environmental health.

The 2026 label

Registration is open for the 2026 edition of the label. More information on the label along with the registration form can be found here.

To date, manufacturers TEKO, Refra, and M&M Carnot have been approved for the 2026 label, with gas supplier GTS and contractor ENNS also approved. More recipients will be announced at ATMO LATAM, which will be held March 9–10 in Bogota, Colombia.

All five companies have received the ATMO Approved Label in multiple years. TEKO, a German manufacturer CO2 (R744) racks, chillers and heat pumps was the first-ever company approved for the label and has since been reapproved in four straight years. Companies are required to be reapproved for the label annually.

Refra, a Lithuanian manufacturer of natural refrigerant-based chillers, heat pumps and refrigeration equipment, has been approved for the label the past three years. GTS, an Italian hydrocarbon gas manufacturer, has also been approved for the label the last three years. U.S.-Canadian refrigeration manufacturer M&M Carnot has been approved for the label four times and Canadian contractor ENNS has been approved for the label each of the past two years.

“Our partnership with ATMO aligns with our mission of advancing smart, healthy and sustainable spaces and places,” said Joe Duncan, National Sales Manager. “ATMO fills a critical role as we work to advance natural refrigerant adoption worldwide.”

Best-in-class certification

The ATMOsphere label is designed to help qualified manufacturers and contractors market products and services to new customers and regions in the natural refrigerants marketplace. Certified organizations can display the label on products, marketing materials, email signatures and trade show booths, boosting their visibility and helping end users identify best-in-class suppliers.

To qualify, companies must demonstrate excellence across four pillars:

  • Company vision – a commitment to natural refrigerants as a core business.
  • Customer satisfaction – positive end-user testimonials confirming reliability and performance.
  • Measurable impact – mitigation of CO2 and TFA emissions.
  • Proactive training – investment in employee and stakeholder education.

Additional information on the 2026 label and the registration form can be found here.
