Lithuanian refrigeration manufacturer Freor has launched Energy, a new cabinet line that delivers up to 50% efficiency gains compared to the company’s standard refrigeration models operating with centralized CO2 (R744) systems.

Freor unveiled the line at EuroShop 2026 across 11 models. The event took place February 22‒26 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The company produces units that operate with natural refrigerants, including CO2 and propane (R290).

“On average, energy savings are around 15%, but with certain units, the improvement can reach as high as 50%,” Freor told NaturalRefrigerants.com, adding that it depends on the specific commercial refrigeration equipment.

The improvements: While the exterior of the cabinets remains unchanged, the energy performance upgrades include improved evaporation coils, enhanced glass wall insulation and in-house manufactured glass doors, lids and endwalls.

  • The company tested its new Energy models under simulated supermarket conditions ‒ 22°C (72°F) with 55% relative humidity ‒ at its laboratory, according to Freor.

Available options: Freor offers Energy models in four cabinet applications:

  • Multidecks: NDL Jupiter and NDL Jupiter Roll-in
  • Semi-verticals: NDL Pluton Space and NDL Elion Low Front
  • Freezer cabinets: NDL Erida, NDL Erida Slim, NDL Leda Compact, NDL Hella and NDL Orion.
  • Counters: NDL IDA QB and NDL Vega Space QB ranges

U.S. news: Freor, working with local partner Marc Refrigeration, recently installed propane cabinets in Flora’s Italian Eatery in Coral Springs, Florida.

  • The new 15,000ft2 (1,390m2) hybrid restaurant/market opened in January, with refrigeration entirely supplied by R290 plug-and-cool systems.
  • Units installed included self-service counters, serve-over counters and wall-placed multideck freezers.
  • Freor showcased its R290 cabinet in the U.S. for the first time at the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) 2023 Exposition.

Quotable: “By reducing energy use and employing natural CO2 refrigerant, the Energy models support global efforts toward sustainable retail refrigeration and a reduced carbon footprint, while maintaining reliability and a modern, functional design,” Freor said.
