Teklab, an Italian manufacturer of regulators, sensors and switches for CO2 (R744) and hydrocarbon refrigeration systems, plans to have its level switches UL certified by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025, allowing the units to be marketed in the U.S.
This update was provided by Riccardo Candrini, Teklab’s Technical Director, at the Chillventa 2024 trade show, held in Nuremberg, Germany October 8-10.
The level switches can be used to alert end users when refrigerant levels in a receiver have dropped below a minimum level or have exceeded a maximum level, said Candrini.
Teklab received UL certification for its TK3+, TK4 and TK4-Modbus oil level regulators in September 2023. All three products are designed to monitor the amount of oil in each compressor of a refrigeration system. When necessary, they inject oil captured in the oil separator to ensure proper lubrication and avoid malfunction and inefficiencies. The CO2 products are rated up to 140bar (2,030psi).

Furthering its efforts in North America, Teklab opened an office last year in Atlanta, Georgia, as the headquarters of its new subsidiary, Teklab USA. The company has over 30 years’ experience working with CO2 and natural refrigerants in the European HVAC&R sector.
Over the past year Teklab, which has focused mostly on CO2 products, has added some regulators and switches for hydrocarbon systems, Candrini said. “We are expanding our portfolio for natural refrigerants.” He expects more interest in propane (R290) products for heat pumps.
At Chillventa, Teklab, which supplies most of the commercial refrigeration OEMs, was talking to new OEMs and contractors. “We want to share the message that CO2 components are available and the supply chain is reliable and experienced.”
