The new report covers the policy and market drivers driving the use of natural refrigerants in commercial chillers and heat pumps in Europe. It also contains data on the market availability of hydrocarbon, CO2 (R744) and ammonia (R717) commercial chillers and heat pumps as well as an estimate of the installed base of propane and CO2 chillers and pumps in Europe.

The manufacturer perspective is also represented, with leaders at five companies interviewed for the report: Refra, SCM Frigo, Secon, Systemair and TEKO. The interviews are paired with case studies that show the work these companies are doing to drive forward natural refrigerants in commercial HVAC, process cooling, integrated systems and more.

“There have been natural refrigerant-based commercial chillers and heat pumps for more than a decade, and the time for them to scale up is finally here,” said Hines. “This report shows why along with where we’re currently at, both in terms of the availability of these products and the installed base.”
