The Clean Fight New York, a not-for-profit accelerator helping growth-stage climate-related technology companies, is seeking applications from companies offering decarbonization solutions such as natural refrigerant-based heat pumps for existing multifamily, affordable housing that serves low-to-moderate income (LMI) residents in New York State.

The new accelerator program is offering up to $100,000 (€95,000) in grant funding per company to facilitate deployments in New York State as well as “high-touch matchmaking with housing partners and critical ecosystem players, connections to the right sources of capital to meet your growth needs, and access to technical assistance and grant funding to facilitate demonstration projects in New York State,” said The Clean Fight New York. The organization said it offers “expert insight” into New York’s regulatory and legislative landscape.

Applicants need to offer proven technologies “with clear signs of market adoption.” The deadline for registering is January 13, 2025; register here. Full applications are due January 27, 2025. The program will run from May to October 2025. Learn more about the program here.

“We’re looking for best-in-class solutions that are tailored to affordable housing providers’ unique needs, that have a clear path to scalability and cost efficiency, and that can help this resource-constrained sector transition to a zero-emission economy.”

The Clean Fight New York is collaborating with the Climate Friendly Homes Fund, which is administered by The Community Preservation Corporation; the housing program is also supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA).

“We’re looking for best-in-class solutions that are tailored to affordable housing providers’ unique needs, that have a clear path to scalability and cost efficiency, and that can help this resource-constrained sector transition to a zero-emission economy,” said The Clean Fight New York. “We welcome applications from companies based in the U.S. or internationally with an interest in entering or expanding in New York.”

The Clean Fight New York also said it is seeking products that would simplify the retrofit process and make decarbonizing multifamily, affordable buildings “easier to navigate, easier to pay for, or easier to install, operate, and maintain, while improving or maintaining the resident experience.”

This fifth edition of The Clean Fight New York follows its 2024 program, which sought technologies to decarbonize food warehousing, distribution and retailing in New York State.

The Clean Fight New York was also the administrator of the Empire Technology Prize, an initiative of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) aimed at advancing low-carbon heating system retrofit technology for high-rise buildings. Three of the seven finalist companies for the prize, announced in July, make natural refrigerant-based heat pumps.
