The Coalition for PFAS-Free Cooling & Heating has published a petition urging the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to “swiftly enact strict and comprehensive restrictions on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)” in the European HVAC&R sector.

The petition is being released as the ECHA prepares to discuss proposed restrictions on PFAS in f-gas applications. The ECHA’s Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) plenary session will take up the issue from March 3–7, and the Socioeconomic Analysis Committee (SEAC) will review it from March 11–14.

“This petition aims to demonstrate to all stakeholders at the ECHA the abundance of natural refrigerant-based alternatives available across various sectors, including refrigeration, heat pumps, automotive, transportation and chillers,” said Cinzia Verzeletti, Spokesperson for the Coalition.

The petition has been signed by all of the Coalition’s members, which include Dorin, Fenagy and Konvekta. ATMOsphere, publisher of NaturalRefrigerants.com, is also a member.

“By showcasing a strong coalition of companies supporting this message, we aim to highlight the wide-ranging European ecosystem of solutions and encourage informed decision-making toward a PFAS-free natural refrigerants-led future,” said Verzeletti.

The petition appears below, and companies that support a PFAS-free HVAC&R sector can sign the petition, which will be sent to the ECHA before the SEAC meets. The petition can be signed here.
