Carrier Solutions UK, a division of Carrier Global Corporation, has announced the U.K. launch of the AquaSnap 30AWH-P, a reversible propane (R290)-based monobloc heat pump for residential and light-commercial applications.

The new heat pump range features eight models, covering capacities of 4–14kW (1.1–4TR) for single-phase residential use and 12kW (3.4TR) to 14kW for three-phase commercial applications. For larger heating and cooling demands, up to four units can be installed in a cascade system, providing scalable solutions for various building types.

“In the development of our AquaSnap 30AWH-P reversible air-to-water heat pump, we focused on adding several key features that provide important benefits to installers and end users,” said Thuy Hoang, Senior Product Manager of Residential A2W Heat Pumps for Carrier HVAC. “The result is a compact and efficient product that improves heating and cooling performance in both residential and light-commercial applications.”

Carrier’s AquaSnap 30AWH-P is designed to deliver water temperatures of up to 75°C (167°F) in heating mode and down to 4°C (39.2°F) in cooling mode, making it compatible with a range of heating and cooling infrastructures. These include underfloor heating, radiators and high-temperature systems that can replace conventional boilers.

The unit is engineered to operate in extreme temperatures, from −20 to 46°C (−4 to 114.8°F), ensuring reliable year-round performance across diverse climatic conditions.

Originally launched in mainland Europe in late 2023, the AquaSnap 30AWH-P heat pump will be available in the U.K. in early 2024. Carrier thus becomes the latest in a host of manufacturers, including Wondrwall Group, Clivet, Weheat and Samsung, to offer propane-based heat pumps.

Reduced emissions

Thanks to the ultra-low GWP of its refrigerant and its energy efficiency, the AquaSnap 30AWH-P reduces CO2e emissions by 99.99% compared to conventional heat pumps using HFC refrigerants like R410A.

“Propane is a highly energy-efficient natural gas, which requires less energy to achieve the same cooling or heating capacity compared to traditional synthetic gases,” Carrier explained.

With a seasonal COP of up to 4.82 and a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) of up to 5.34, the unit offers significant efficiency gains, it added.

Easy installation and safe operation

The monobloc design, compact footprint and lightweight construction of the AquaSnap 30AWH-P facilitate easy installation. All components are housed within the outdoor unit, simplifying setup and minimizing space requirements.

The unit also features a hermetically sealed refrigerant circuit with a low refrigerant charge, reducing the risk of leaks. An external gas separator on the leaving water pipe further enhances safety by preventing potential refrigerant leakage.
