Airedale by Modine, a U.K.-based thermal management solutions manufacturer, has released a new air-source reversible propane (R290) heat pump line, MultiChill Propane, on the British market for commercial and industrial applications.
The modular units come in seven sizes, with cooling capacities ranging from 35 to 75kW (10 to 21.3TR) and heating from 40 to 86kW (11.4 to 24.5TR).
“The MultiChill Propane is a groundbreaking addition to Airedale by Modine’s sustainable range of commercial and industrial heat pump chillers,” said Simon Scott, Commercial Director for Airedale by Modine.
Specifications: The line, designed for comfort and process applications, delivers an SCOP of up to 3.63.
- It provides domestic hot water at up to 75°C (167°F).
- Single compressor models contain a propane charge of less than 5kg and dual compressor models less than 10kg.
- Safety features on the unit include leak detectors and a double division barrier between the control section and the refrigerant circuit compartment, according to the manufacturer.
Modular configuration: With the ability to connect up to 16 units, the design provides a total cooling capacity of 1,168kW (332.1TR) and 1,376kW (391.2TR) of heating.
Production surge: Several manufacturers showed off new R290 heat pumps at ISH 2025, held in Frankfurt from March 17 to 21.
- German manufacturer Skadec debuted a new compact reversible propane water-cooled heat pump with a heating capacity of up to 87kW (24.7TR) and a propane charge of less than 2.5kg.
- Italian-based HVAC manufacturer Rhoss brought two new R290 air-to-water heat pump models: UniPACK-P, covering a 50‒160kW (14.2‒45.5TR) capacity range, and MidiPACK-PI, covering a 20‒25kW (5.7‒7.1TR) capacity range.
- Japanese HVAC&R manufacturer Daikin showcased its new R290 EWYK-QZ commercial heat pump, with heating and cooling capacities of 100kW to 2MW (28.4 to 568.7TR), depending on the system configuration.
