Japanese OEM Panasonic has announced that it will showcase ‒ for the first time at the German HVAC&R trade fair ‒ its natural refrigeration products and components, including rotary compressors, fan motors and pumps, at Chillventa 2024.

In a recent interview, Gaku Shimada, General Manager of Condensing Unit (CDU) Engineering and CDU Business Planning at Panasonic, told NaturalRefrigerants.com that the company will also exhibit its 20HP CO2 (R744) condensing unit. Panasonic launched the unit, with applications for industrial process cooling and supermarkets, on the European market earlier this year.

According to ATMOsphere research, Panasonic has installed more than 16,000 outdoor CO2 condensing units in Japan as of September 2023 for medium- and low-temperature applications.

Last July, Panasonic announced entering an agreement with Cooling Solutions to acquire Polish CO2 condensing unit manufacturer Area Cooling Solutions. “[We] see Europe as [our] most important market for the future,” Panasonic said in the announcement.

Chillventa, held every two years, showcases HVAC, heat pump and refrigeration technologies for commercial and industrial applications. This year the event takes place October 8‒10 in Nuremberg, Germany, at the NürnbergMesse exhibition center.

Technical experts from Panasonic’s Europe division will be available at the exhibition to discuss the company’s designs and energy-saving solutions. Besides the condensing unit, the manufacturer will display components for heat pumps and refrigeration systems at booth 4-362.

Rotary compressors: According to Panasonic, its two-stage CO2 rotary compressors cut energy usage by roughly 25% in low-temperature applications and by 16% in medium-temperature compared to synthetic R404.

  • Though the company did not give specifics, it did note that the compressors are available with different natural refrigerants.
  • “With our vast and rich technical experience, [our compressors] serve the needs of different industries ranging from household usage to commercial applications,” Panasonic said.

Fan motors: Panasonic says its fan motors provide maximum power with low energy consumption and quiet operation.

  • “In collaboration with SIT, a new complete fan solution for residential heat pumps will be demonstrated at Panasonic’s stand,” the company said. Italian SIT manufactures mechanical and electronic controls for heating and ventilation fans.

Pumps: The OEM also manufactures water pumps to regulate flow in heat pump systems. “[Our] latest range of pumps consume 20% less power than our previous models,” Panasonic said.

  • The latest heat pump solution manufactured by Italy-based Innova, incorporating Panasonic products, will also be showcased in booth 4-362. Innova also manufactures fan coils and heat recovery ventilators.
  • Last month, Panasonic announced partnering with U.K. heat pump installer Plug Me In to make its Aquarea brand heat pumps, including its propane (R290) L Series, available to residential customers.

Quotable: “We have worked hard to design and manufacture the most efficient, durable, quiet and cost-effective components for our customers,” said Davide Ripani, Sales Manager of Industry and Infrastructure at Panasonic Europe. “Please come and see us at Chillventa. We can show you the ideal components for your requirements.”

“With our vast and rich technical experience, [our compressors] serve the needs of different industries ranging from household usage to commercial applications.”
