Evapco, a U.S.-based manufacturer of industrial ammonia (R717) and CO2 (R744) refrigeration systems and components, has launched eco-Air Titan, an air-cooled heat exchanger for large-scale heat rejection duty for battery plants, data centers, industrial processing and power generation.

The new unit ‒ applicable to natural refrigerant systems, including ammonia and CO2 ‒ operates on the condensing side of a refrigerant system. It cools circulating water or glycol with Titan’s up-to-20ft (6.1m)-wide fans, according to Troy Reineck, Business Development Manager at Evapco.

“We are pushing our heat rejection products to a larger scale to support high-density cooling,” Reineck told NaturalRefrigerants.com at the 2025 AHR Expo. “The demand for Titan is blowing up faster than we expected.” The expo was held in Orlando, Florida, February 10‒12.

According to Reineck, a 100MW (284.3TR) data center might use a billion gallons (3.8 billion liters) of water a year operating with a traditional cooling tower. “Water-saving options are a big deal in the sector,” he noted. To keep up with the demand for Titan, Evapo is expanding manufacturing at its U.S. facilities in Taneytown, Maryland, and Madera, California, as well as globally in Belgium and China.

“We lift the unit off the ground and pull air through the V-shaped configuration with large high-efficiency fans, which saves on auxiliary power and provides cooling without water,” Reineck said. “With fewer fans, it also cuts the sound footprint.”

Titan is manufactured using modularized standard components for transportation ease, with the complete product erected in the field.

CO2 trending: According to Frédéric Houle, Sales Director at Evapco LMP ‒ a Canadian subsidiary of Evapco ‒ the company sees a “big trend” in CO2 industrial applications across North America.

  • The subsidiary manufactures CO2 systems with capacities ranging from 30‒225TR (106‒791kW) and has more than 430 transcritical systems operating in the U.S. and Canada.
  • “The industrial demand keeps pushing us to build bigger CO2 systems, with a 1,200HP combined compressor rack currently on our build floor for a warehouse project,” Houle told Marc Chasserot, ATMOsphere’s CEO and Founder, last August. ATMOsphere is the publisher of NaturalRefrigerants.com.

New ejector: At the IIAR 2024 Natural Refrigeration Conference & Heavy Equipment Expo, Evapco showcased a new ejector for low-charge ammonia systems in its VersaSplit system.

  • The company’s Ejet-branded evaporator for its low-charge ammonia packaged refrigeration units uses an ejector to raise the capacity and efficiency of a DX evaporator almost to the level of a pumped liquid recirculation unit while offering the stable operation of a direct expansion system, the company said.

Growing operations: Last year, Evapco announced it was expanding its headquarters in Taneytown, adding 45,000ft2 (4,180m2) of office space.

  • The company said the expansion would create 275 new jobs, bringing the headcount to more than 840 people.
  • “Evapco has been one of Maryland’s powerhouse companies for decades, and its reach now extends across the globe,” said Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

Quotable: “All of our world regions are seeing a growing demand for large heat rejection using water-saving methods,” Reineck said. “We are ramping up manufacturing worldwide.”

“We are pushing our heat rejection products to a larger scale to support high-density cooling.”
