Evapco to Expand Its Maryland Headquarters by 45,000ft2, Creating 275 New Jobs

The expansion will push the company’s headcount at its Taneytown headquarters to more than 840 people.

U.S. OEM Evapco has announced it will expand its headquarters in Taneytown, Maryland, adding an additional 45,000ft2 (4,180m2) of office space, which it said will lead to the creation of 275 new jobs, bringing its headcount in the city to more than 840 people.

Evapco produces industrial ammonia (R717) and CO2 (R744) systems and components, including a packaged low-charge ammonia mega-split refrigeration system it calls the first of its type.

Growing its presence: A press release issued by Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s office noted that this is the second time in the past decade that Evapco has expanded its operations in Taneytown.

  • In December 2017, Evapco announced it had completed construction of a new manufacturing facility located across the street from its headquarters.
  • Evapco’s HQ also features a 60,000ft2 (5,574m2R&D facility that houses eight environmental chambers used to test cooling towers, closed circuit coolers, ammonia evaporative condensers, low-charge ammonia refrigeration systems and air-cooled condensers.

“As more companies are investing outside of the U.S., Evapco is proud to make this investment here in Maryland, especially in Carroll County.”

State funding: According to Evapco’s Vice President of Global Operations, Bill Jones, state funding and county programs were crucial to the decision to expand in Taneytown.

  • The Maryland Department of Commerce approved a $1.4 million conditional loan to help fund the expansion and a $200,000 grant. The company is also eligible for tax credits offered by Carroll County, where Taneytown is located.
  • “Evapco had several options when considering where to expand,” said Jones. “Fortunately, the state of Maryland in conjunction with Carroll County Economic Development provided programs, which led to our decision to expand in Taneytown. As more companies are investing outside of the U.S., Evapco is proud to make this investment here in Maryland, especially in Carroll County.”

Maintaining momentum: Evapco has made more than 147 “major investments” and “hundreds” of hires since 2017, according to Chad Nagle, Sr., Vice President of HVAC/IP Sales & Marketing, in an interview with Chiller & Cooling Best Practices Magazine at Evapco’s Global Sales Conference in Baltimore in October 2023.

The Governor’s quote: “Evapco has been one of Maryland’s powerhouse companies for decades and its reach now extends across the globe,” said Gov. Moore. “We’re thrilled that the company will continue expanding and innovating in Carroll County, creating hundreds of new jobs, and making Maryland more competitive.”
