Italian manufacturer Enerblue is gearing up to celebrate a decade of pioneering propane (R290) heat pump technology at Chillventa 2024, a leading international trade fair for the HVAC&R industry. This milestone marks 10 years since the introduction of its Purple range of R290 commercial and industrial heat pumps, which was first launched in 2014 and is now in its fifth generation.
Enerblue’s latest Purple heat pump is set to be a focal point of its presence at Chillventa, where it will be featured at booth 348 in Hall 4.
The company will be sharing its expertise on the installation, performance and future of R290 technology as part of the trade show’s Specialist Forums:
- Guidelines for R290 heat pump installation – October 8 at 12:20 pm in hall 4A at stand 419
- Water chillers with screw compressors: Silver – October 10 at 1:40 pm in hall 4A at stand 419
Enerblue will also be hosting an event at its booth at 3:30 pm on October 9, in partnership with Eptec Energi, a Norwegian engineering company and one of Enerblue’s oldest clients.
Several Enerblue team members will be attending the conference, including CEO Simonluca Tessarin.
Chillventa 2024 will take place at the NürnbergMesse exhibition center in Nuremberg, Germany, October 8–10.
Continuous innovation
Founded in 2007, Enerblue started working with natural refrigerants in 2012, when it manufactured its first CO2 (R744) heat pump. Since then, the company has expanded its portfolio of natural refrigerant-based heat pumps and chillers to include several propane and CO2 technologies. While it continues to produce units with synthetic refrigerants, the company has said its focus is now on naturals.
“Propane and CO2 are central in the development of our heat pumps,” Enerblue says on its website. “The use of very low-GWP, high efficiency natural refrigerants is now our mission.”

The latest Purple air-to-water heat pump offers robust heating up to 221kW (62.8TR) while maintaining water temperatures up to 62°C (143°F), even in ambient temperatures as low as −20°C (−4°F). The reversible unit can also provide up to 181kW (51.5TR) of cooling capacity.
Designed for reliability, the Purple heat pump includes features like dynamic defrost logic, separate aeraulic sections and a regenerative heat exchanger to ensure top performance even in extreme climates.
Building on the success of the Purple range, Enerblue introduced the Palladium R290 heat pumps earlier this year. Designed for smaller applications, Palladium units provide heating capacities up to 164kW (46.6TR) and can achieve water temperatures as high as 70°C (158°F), ideal for retrofit projects. One of these units was recently installed at the U.K. headquarters of Greenpeace in London.
Enerblue attributes its ongoing success to its strong focus on research and development. The company collaborates closely with suppliers and tests new components in its in-house climatic chamber, constantly refining its products.
“Research, application of new technologies and test campaigns are what bring new products to life,” it said.
