SWEP Releases New Stainless Steel Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger

Heat exchanger manufacturer SWEP has released the B18, a new stainless steel unit designed for use with CO2 (R744) systems. The brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE) is rated for up to 140bar (2,030psi) and “is optimized for high heat pump capacities” of 150kW (42.6TR) as a gas cooler and 60kW (17TR) as an evaporator, per SWEP. The B18 follows the release of another all-stainless steel BPHE designed for use with CO2, the B4TS, announced in March.

GEA R717 Heat Pump Reduces CO2 Emissions at Türk Tuborg Brewery in Türkiye by 7%

A Türk Tuborg brewery in Izmir, Türkiye, reduced its CO2 emissions by 7.4% after it installed a GEA industrial ammonia (R717) heat pump. The heat pump captures waste heat from the production process and reuses it for process heating. GEA said that, in addition to the 7.4% reduction in CO2 emissions, overall energy efficiency has remained stable after the heat pump’s installation.

Lync by Watts Installs CO2 Heat Pump Water Heater in Hawaiian Resort

Lync by Watts installed a CO2 heat pump water heater to provide domestic hot water for a resort in Hawaii. The water-source Aegis heat pump provides hot water for 350 rooms, five high-capacity commercial washing machines and a commercial kitchen, with two recirculation loops at 120°F (48°C) and 140°F (60°C), respectively. The heat pump uses the resort’s chiller loop as its heat source, which Lync said has led to a combined COP of 6.4. In addition to the Aegis heat pump three gas-fired AERCO Innovation water heaters were installed as backup.

DTX Tape Certified as PFAS-Free

Insignia Technologies has told NaturalRefrigerants.com that its DTX Tape, which is designed to detect CO2 refrigerant leaks, has been certified as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)-free by Eurofins BLC. DTX Tape signals leaks by changing from purple to yellow in leaks with CO2 concentrations as low as 3%.

Trane Releases ARIES N Air-Cooled R290 Chiller

Trane has announced the release of the ARIES N, a new propane (R290) air-cooled chiller equipped with scroll compressors. The ARINES N provides a cooling capacity of up to 240kW (68.2TR), provides flow temperatures of –12 to 25°C (10 to 77°F) and can operate in ambient temperatures ranging from –20 to 48°C (–4 to 118°F). “With reliable performance at full and part loads, even at leaving temperatures as low as –12°C, as well as add-ons like partial heat recovery, the ARIES N supports our customers’ goals for energy optimization and carbon reduction,” said Erik van Oossanen, Product Management Leader for Trane, in a statement.
