Italian chiller and heat pump manufacturer Tecnofreddo has released a new propane (R290) air-to-water high-temperature heat pump that can reach an outlet temperature of 80°C (176°F).
The new high-temperature heat pump is part of the company’s “Danae” series, a line of reversible R290 heat pumps. Previously, the maximum outlet temperature a Danae heat pump could reach was 45°C (113°F).
This new model enables Tecnofreddo to offer propane heat pumps for industrial applications as well as for commercial comfort heating and cooling, which its lineup previously served. These industrial sectors could include the food industry, pharmaceutical sector and HVAC&R, specifically for large buildings and data centers, according to Frascold, whose compressors power the heat pump.
The Danae high-temperature heat pump uses Frascold’s ATEX-HT semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor, which the Italian component manufacturer said features a line start permanent magnet (LSPM) electric motor that increases efficiency by 6% compared to a standard asynchronous motor. LSPM motors start like induction motors but have permanent magnets on the rotor to eliminate slip – the lag between the stator and rotor – that leads to energy loss.

“The high-temperature heat pump developed with Frascold compressors marks a turning point in our industry thanks to its ability to combine high performance and environmental sustainability,” said Gianmarco Asaro, Marketing Manager at Tecnofreddo, in a statement.
“The collaboration with Tecnofreddo is a significant opportunity for Frascold, which is constantly dedicated to the development of new, sustainable and innovative technologies,” added Mirco Pasotti, Sales Area Manager at Frascold.
The Danae high-temperature heat pump made its public debut at Chillventa 2024, where Copeland also debuted a new ammonia- (R717) based industrial heat pump.
