Foshan LYD Energy Saving Technology, a Chinese manufacturer of CO2 (R744) heat pumps and heat pump water heaters, has joined the world’s leading natural refrigerant HVAC&R stakeholders as a silver partner of the NaturalRefrigerants.com marketplace.

LYD is based in Foshan City and offers both air- and water-source R744 heat pumps for a variety of applications ranging from residential to district heating. Its products listed on the NaturalRefrigerants.com marketplace include a heat pump air heater that can also provide chilled water, a heat pump that can provide hot water and free cooling simultaneously and a water-to-water heat pump.

The heat pump air heater has a max outlet temperature of 120°C (248°F), a heating capacity from 40 to 250kW (11.4 to 71.1TR) and a cooling capacity from 21.8 to 144kW (6.2 to 40.9TR). It is designed for industrial use. Equipping the heat pump air heater with an optional heating element pushes its max outlet temperature to 160°C (320°F).

LYD’s CO2 heat pump has a heating capacity from 75 to 250kW (21.3 to 71.1TR) and a cooling capacity between 21.8 and 99kW (6.2 and 28.2TR) and is designed for applications with simultaneous requirements for hot water and cooling, such as hotels and hospitals.

The water-to-water heat pump can provide hot water at temperatures up to 95°C (203°F) using ground or waste water as a heat source. The smallest unit offers a heating capacity of 40kW, but its modular design enables multiple units to be combined to provide a max heating capacity of 500kW (142.2TR).

Previous projects

LYD lists a variety of completed projects involving its CO2 heat pumps on its website. This includes a hotel in Macau, in which two 160kW (45.5TR) water-to-water CO2 heat pumps replaced a gas-fired boiler to provide domestic hot water at up to 55°C (131°F) to 480 guest rooms and chilled water at 7°C (44.6°F) for an air-conditioning system in a gambling parlor running all day.

LYD also installed a CO2 heat pump cascade system to supply hot water for the radiator-based heating system in a middle school in China where winter temperatures can drop as low as −35°C (−31°F). The system uses two air-to-water heat pumps, which heat the water to 30°C (86°F). The water is then heated to 35°C (167°F) and circulated throughout the radiator pipes in the 5,000m2 (53,819ft2) school.
