U.K.-based gas detection equipment manufacturer International Gas Detectors (IGD) has developed two new portable gas detectors in its BELL product line: the BELL LITE and BELLMINI, which can detect leaks of CO2 (R744) and ammonia (R717) among other gases.

Both devices can register up to 200 event logs and 5,000 data logs and are designed with IP68 waterproof and dustproof protection, according to IGD. The detectors can be connected to the BELLCONNECT mobile app, which allows for custom configuration, calibration and bump tests.

Lightweight protection: BELL LITE is a multi-gas detector that can monitor up to five gases at the same time, including CO2, and weighs in at just 170g (6oz).

  • IGD said the BELL LITE is designed for use in confined spaces and high-risk industrial environments including construction sites, chemical plants, laboratories and research facilities.

Small but mighty: The BELLMINI detector is designed to monitor a range of 18 different gases, including CO2 and ammonia.

  • The device features replaceable sensors and batteries and a one-button operating system, and it can run for up to two years between battery changes.

From mobile to mounted: In 2024 IGD shared news about a project in the U.K. where it installed 36 ammonia gas leak detectors at a supermarket’s cold storage facility.

  • The 300,000ft2 (27,870m2) needed to upgrade the ammonia-leak detector system of its 25-year-old refrigeration system.
  • The facility keeps goods as cold as −20°C (−4°F), and IGD’s sensors are designed for temperatures as low as −40°C (−40°F).
