“I have been with [Saginomiya] for 10 years, and I have had more inquiries for CO2 [R744] in the last year than in the previous nine,” said Adam Lostumbo, Senior Sales Manager for Saginomiya America, a division of Japanese component provider Saginomiya.

Lostumbo shared that comment at the AHR Expo 2024, held January 22–24 in Chicago.

Saginomiya, a manufacturer of pressure switches, pressure sensors, solenoid valves and electronic expansion valves for transcritical CO2 systems, is working on expanding its sales in the U.S. market, said Lostumbo. “It’s coming,” he added. Customers are “considering” CO2 technology, despite its higher costs.

Meanwhile, Saginomiya is adding improvements to its CO2 products. For example, it has introduced an extended flare connection for its CO2 pressure switches, allowing them to be used in tight spaces in a compressor rack. “So if piping is getting tight, which is common in supermarket racks, this makes it easier [for the pressure switch] to fit,” said Lostumbo.

The company has also begun offering a Packard-style electrical connector for its CO2 pressure sensors to complement Molex connectors.

Saginomiya says it has “solidified” its position as a major supplier of controls and valves for CO2 heat pump hot water systems. At AHR Expo in 2024 and 2023, several manufacturers of CO2 heat pump hot water systems exhibited their products.
