German component manufacturer ESK Schultze has unveiled a new filter for its CO2 (R744) coalescent oil separators that increases the speed by which oil is filtered.
The announcement came at the Chillventa 2024 trade show, held in Nuremberg, Germany October 8–10.
ESK Schultze displayed the new filter at Chillventa in its BOS4-CDH-1DFO oil separator, the first model for which the filter was incorporated, said Jahn-Benjamin Spieske, Sales Engineer for Velten, Germany-based ESK Schultze.
The new product enables “more mass flow of oil in the same size filter,” Spieske said. It is rated for 130bar (1,885psi).
Under the filter is “is porous, baked material that gives the filter the ability to have extremely high surface area and efficiency.”

He explained that most companies employ filters with many layers of fiber, whereas ESK Schultze’s filter uses one layer and under it “is porous, baked material that gives the filter the ability to have extremely high surface area and efficiency,” thus expediting the filtering process. The filter is also able to work “without too much pressure from the oil,” he said.
The filter will be used in other ESK Schultze BOS4-CDH oil separators, Spieske said. Last year, the company launched the BOS4-CDH series for CO2 applications.
ESK Schultze announced this year that its production facilities use a photovoltaic system that has an average annual output of 250 kWp, which covers 60% of electricity demand with a further 20 kWp under preparation. The remaining electricity requirements are covered exclusively by external purchases from renewable sources. For company vehicles, it uses exclusively plug-in hybrids or electric vehicles, which are regularly charged at 12 charging points on the company’s premises.
