SCM Frigo Launches Higher-Capacity Transcritical CO2 Racks for Commercial Applications

The Italian OEM’s Smart Booster 2.0 offers a new configuration with more compressors to provide a higher cooling capacity for both low and medium temperatures.

SCM Frigo, an Italian manufacturer specializing in CO2 (R744)-based refrigeration technologies, has launched a new range of transcritical CObooster racks for commercial applications.

The Smart Booster 2.0 offers a new configuration with a total of five compressors to provide a higher cooling capacity for both low and medium temperatures.

The announcement was shared by Mirko Bernabei, Director of SCM Frigo, in a LinkedIn post.

Increased capacity

The Smart Booster 2.0 is equipped with three medium-temperature (MT) compressors that provide up to 76kW (21.6TR) in cooling capacity. For low-temperature (LT) capacity, the rack offers up to 16kW (4.5TR) thanks to its two LT compressors.

The existing Smart Booster model, which is designed for convenience stores, includes a total of three compressors – two MT and one LT – and offers a maximum of 51kW (14.5TR) and 8.5kW (2.4TR) in MT and LT capacity, respectively.

In addition to increased capacity, the 2.0 model also boasts a larger liquid receiver. Customers can opt for either a 105l (23.1gal) or 150l (33gal) receiver, up from just 70l (15.4gal) on the original model. The increase in size is “to fit the installation perfectly,” explained Bernabei.

“For warmer climates, good efficiency can be guaranteed using [a low pressure] ejector,” he added.

Faster delivery

To enable faster delivery to customers, the Smart Booster 2.0 is a “standard product range,” said Bernabei, adding that it’s in stock and available for immediate shipping.

According to a statement on the company website, SCM Frigo is increasing its stock quantities across some of its more popular products to reduce delivery time. This includes its Smart Booster transcritical CO2 racks and its CUBO2 Plus condensing units.

The manufacturer is taking additional steps to reduce lead time, including expanding its 10,000m2 (107,640ft2) production facility to create a new warehouse for storing components.

Commitment to natural refrigerants

SCM Frigo is a global player in the natural refrigerants sector with almost 20 years’ experience. Earlier this year, the company received the Natural Refrigerants Label from ATMOsphere, a global market accelerator of clean cooling and heating solutions and publisher of R744.com.

The label is designed to help qualified manufacturers market products to new customers and regions in the natural refrigerants marketplace. It is also meant to help end users to identify best-in-class suppliers.

“In 2005 SCM Frigo started to develop systems with natural refrigerants because we understood the importance of being a pioneer in this technology focusing on sustainability,” said Nicola Pignatelli, the company’s CEO. “It’s time to qualify and make evident the right level of skill and competence of the companies who design and build refrigerant systems using green technology.”
