Hussmann Launches Evolve Technologies Brand for Sustainable Refrigeration Products for Retailers

The new brand encompasses systems that use sustainable refrigerants, including CO2 and propane.

U.S. OEM Hussmann, a subsidiary of Panasonic, has launched Evolve Technologies, a new brand portfolio for “sustainable refrigeration solutions” that use CO2 (R744) and propane (R290).

“As refrigerants are becoming more natural and non-toxic, we’ve made a commitment to continue to provide education on working with cutting-edge compressors and digital components to help keep everyone safe,” the company writes on the sustainability section of its website. “Evolve Technologies portfolio provides the tools to future-proof retail businesses by meeting government regulations.”

To support the roll out of Evolve Technologies, Hussmann has expanded its production capacity for transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems at its facility in Suwanee, Georgia (U.S.). This project is focused specifically on Hussmann’s large outdoor transcritical rack platform, which is designed for medium and large retail stores. This product is part of the Evolve Technologies portfolio.

Hussmann also said that it is increasing capacity for its self-contained R290 lineup. According to the company, it was among the first American manufacturers to design, engineer and deliver a propane system for full-sized merchandising displays to refrigerate perishable food for its food retail customers in the U.S.

In a recent interview with Progressive Grocer, Lianne Tombol, VP of Portfolio Solutions at Hussmann, spoke about the company’s latest R290 offerings.

“We are continuing to evolve our propane solutions,” said Tombol. “We just launched a propane option for the walk-in cooler and freezer boxes. Now retailers can use propane, and their entire store can utilize a natural refrigerant refrigeration solution. Today, we have a really nice portfolio of propane and CO2 solutions.”

Headquartered in Bridgeton, Missouri, Hussmann installs and services supermarket and convenience store display cases and refrigeration systems. Its equipment is in more than 250,000 stores across the country, according to the company.
