ATMOsphere, publisher of NaturalRefrigerants.com, has issued a call for case studies on natural refrigerants in mobile air-conditioning (MAC) and transport refrigeration to be presented at the ATMO MAC Summit 2025 × TU Berlin, which will be held in Berlin from September 23–24.

To be considered, case studies must include real-life natural refrigerant applications – such as CO2 (R744), propane (R290) or isobutane (R600a) – and be relevant to MAC applications in the automotive, bus and train sectors or to truck and container transportation refrigeration applications.

Case studies must be submitted by May 23 using the template provided. Details on how to submit a case study can be found here.

Submissions must include reference to the application’s sustainability, replicability, originality and tangibility, and preference will be given to case studies that include efficiency and cost analyses. In addition to real-life installations and demonstration projects, case studies can also focus on laboratory testing that has produced tangible results.

OEMs and suppliers can present case studies examining a wide range of topics, including thermal management in battery cooling, refrigerant charge reduction strategies and compressor lubrication, and reversible air-conditioning and heat pump strategies. In addition, submissions for truck and maritime refrigerated containers are also being accepted.

Each presentation will be allocated a maximum of 12 minutes followed by three minutes for audience questions.

Return of the MAC

The ATMO MAC Summit 2025 × TU Berlin is being hosted in partnership with Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin)’s Department of Heat Transfer and Conversion and will be held on the university’s campus. The inaugural event, ATMOsphere’s first to focus exclusively on the MAC sector, was held in 2024 on the TU Berlin campus and featured speakers from Volkswagen, Ford and Deutsche Bahn.

The second edition of the ATMO MAC Summit × TU Berlin will gather HVAC&R manufacturers and OEMs, end users, policymakers and more for technical case studies, policy discussions and networking. Sessions will focus on the latest research and market trends in MAC along with technical case studies on the implementation and scaling up of CO2 and propane HVAC, thermal management and transport refrigeration systems.

The latest developments in the policy space related to natural refrigerants, to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) and to the MAC Directive will also be discussed. The tentative program can be viewed here. The conference will also include several networking opportunities.

Registration for the summit is now open, and an early bird discount of €150 ($162) is available until April 18. OEMs, academics and government representatives can attend the summit for free, and there is a 50% discount for confirmed speakers.
