Expanded Secon Plant for Hydrocarbon Chillers Expected to Open in March

The German manufacturer’s Croatia facility is expanding by 1,000 square meters.

German hydrocarbon chiller manufacturer Secon has reported on LinkedIn that it is about to complete the expansion of its production site in Croatia, which will further increase the production capacities for its chillers using exclusively natural refrigerants.

The natural refrigerants noted are the hydrocarbons propane (R290), propylene (R1270) and isobutane (R600a).

The almost 1,000m2 (10,764ft2) expansion is expected to be ready for use in mid-March, Secon said, adding, “When it goes into operation as planned, the production processes in our assembly plant can be significantly improved once again and production capacity increased accordingly.”

Secon was founded in 2010 to manufacture chillers solely on the basis of natural refrigerants and pioneered the use of hydrocarbons.

“When it goes into operation as planned, the production processes in our assembly plant can be significantly improved once again and production capacity increased accordingly.”

Hydrocarbons like propane, propylene and isobutane are a feasible choice for applications in any temperature range, especially in supermarket applications where integrated systems can show great efficiency and reduce costs, according to Joachim Schadt, Owner and Managing Director of Secon.

From process cooling to low-temperature applications and heat pumps, there is a natural refrigerant option for every temperature range, said Schadt. “Almost all applications can already be covered efficiently, safely and economically with natural refrigerants.”
