Skadec, a Germany-based manufacturer of hydrocarbon-based chillers and heat pumps for commercial HVAC, refrigeration and process cooling, has joined the world’s leading natural refrigerant HVAC&R stakeholders as a gold partner of the NaturalRefrigerants.com marketplace.

The company is headquartered in Waldenburg, Germany, and has been working with natural refrigerants for more than 10 years. It only uses natural refrigerants for its air- and water-cooled heat pumps and chillers – which cover heating capacities from 30–2,500kW (8.5–710TR) – including propane (R290), isobutane (R600a) and propylene (R1270).

Skadec debuted a four-pipe R290 heat pump offering simultaneous heating and cooling along with a low-charge, compact propane chiller at Chillventa 2022. The four-pipe heat pump offers a heating capacity of 100–300kW (28–85TR) and was one of the products it brought to Chillventa 2024. The company also brought its compact propane chiller, which has a charge of under 2.5kg and can be installed indoors, and an R600a high-temperature heat pump offering outlet temperatures of 90°C (194°F).

Skadec’s products are manufactured in Lithuania, with the company’s production area covering more than 7,000m2 (75,347ft2). Skadec says it has completed more than 1,300 projects with a total installed cooling capacity of 160,000kW (45,495TR), good for a savings of 45,000 tons of CO2e.

In 2023, Skadec supplied two propane heat pumps and chillers to provide heating and cooling for a new office in Leonberg, Germany, built for “one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers.” The air-cooled chillers have a cooling capacity of 516kW (146TR) and provide comfort cooling to the more than 2,000 workers in the building, while the two water-cooled brine-water heat pumps, each with an output of 1,751kW (497TR), provide space heating. The four units were mounted on the roof.

In 2022, the company supplied two reversible air-to-water propane heat pumps and two air-cooled chillers to provide heating and cooling to an office building in Neckarsulm, Germany, for IT company Bechtle. The heat pumps have a heating capacity of 125kW (35TR) at an ambient temperature of −14°C (6°F) and a cooling capacity of 175kW (49TR) at an ambient temperature of 35°C (95°F).
