ATMO America 2024

CO2 Refrigeration and Heat Pumps to Highlight ATMO America Case Studies

This 13th annual edition of ATMO America will be held Monday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 11, in Washington, D.C.

A wide range of refrigeration and heat pump case studies involving the use of CO(R744) as the refrigerant will be presented by industry-leading companies at the ATMOsphere (ATMO) America Summit 2024 on natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R, which will be held Monday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 11, in Washington, D.C.

This 13th annual edition of ATMO America will gather key industry experts, including manufacturers, policymakers, end users and contractors, to learn about the latest developments in natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R systems, including those using CO2, hydrocarbons (such as propane/R290 and isobutane/R600a) and ammonia (R717). Last year’s ATMO America conference was also held in Washington.

You can now register for the event here and find the preliminary program and other information on the event website. End users can register for free, and contractors/installers of HVAC&R systems are eligible to receive one free ticket per organization, with a 50% discount on additional tickets.

Among the featured CO2 refrigeration case studies:

  • Copeland & Future Green will explain how to lower superheat to improve efficiencies in CO2 systems.
  • Hillphoenix will discuss approaches to mitigate charge loss during power or service events.
  • Güntner, Zero Zone and Amond World will show the advantages of a CO2 refrigeration system and adiabatic gas coolers in cold storage facilities.
  • Zero Zone and Coolsys will discuss the future of industrial transcritical CO2 systems.

Among the featured CO2 heat pump case studies:

  • Dorin will explain the safe and efficient operation of CO₂ heat pumps in very low ambient temperatures.
  • Hillphoenix and Flō Energy Solutions will discuss how to leverage heat reclaim to enhance the ROI of a CO2 system.
  • Intellihot will show how a Washington, D.C., public school is improving its emissions grade with a COtankless heat pump water heater

Other related case studies:

  • Axiom Cloud will show how Grocery Outlet, which is transitioning to natural refrigerants in its 500+ stores, is reducing refrigerant emissions of legacy systems.
  • Ratio Institute will discuss the net present value (NPV) and benefit of natural refrigeration systems.

In addition to case study presentations, the program will also feature a keynote presentation; end users’ experiences with natural refrigerants; policy and standards updates, including the latest from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); a discussion on the impact of PFAS refrigerants on health and safety; and market and technology trends.
