Baltimore Aircoil Company Announces $16.5 Million Investment in Tennessee Coil-Production Facility

The company established a presence in the state following its acquisition of Coil Design in August 2023.

Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC), a Maryland-based manufacturer of commercial and industrial HVAC&R equipment and systems, has announced a US$16.5 million (€15.1 million) investment in its production facility in Dayton, Tennessee.

The investment will expand BAC’s manufacturing operations at the facility and will consist of “significant infrastructure improvements,” which include adding coil-manufacturing equipment, material-handling equipment and craneage, explained the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) in a statement. The TNECD stated that the investment was driven by the growth of BAC’s dry coil and adiabatic cooling equipment businesses.

“BAC is thrilled to be driving the revitalization of this facility and participating in the growth of the Dayton, Rhea County and Tennessee economies,” said Dave Klee, BAC’s General Manager. “We are grateful for the support we’ve received from city, county and state officials as well as the positive response from the skilled workforce in the area.”

BAC anticipates that it will create 63 new jobs at the site once the project is completed, bringing the company’s total headcount in the state to more than 150.

“Thanks to Tennessee’s significant investment in technical colleges, BAC will have access to a workforce of skilled tradesmen and women,” added Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. “I thank them for choosing to create new, high-quality jobs in Southeast Tennessee and look forward to seeing BAC’s continued success in Dayton.”

BAC established a presence in Tennessee in August after acquiring Dayton-based Coil Design, a manufacturer of cooling and heating coils. The two companies were partners since 2019, with Coil Design working with BAC on its TrilliumSeries of adiabatic products, which are compatible with ammonia (R717) and CO2 (R744) systems.

Acquire and invest

Prior to Coil Design, BAC acquired Italian component manufacturer Eurocoil in 2021 to strengthen its position in European cooling markets.

In January 2023, BAC announced an investment of $16.4 million (€15 million) to expand production at Eurocoil. The investment was earmarked for the construction of a new 9,000m2 (96,875ft2) production facility, new machinery and to double personnel.

“The full acquisition of Coil Design and our previous acquisition of Eurocoil in Italy, positions BAC to accelerate the development of industry-leading evaporative hybrid and adiabatic technologies, furthering our vision to reinvent cooling to sustain the world,” said Don Fetzer, President of BAC.

In addition to its U.S. and Italian sites, the company has manufacturing locations in Australia, Belgium, China and South Africa.
